This tutorial will teach you how to create a button in Macromedia Flash MX 2004.
A Button in Flash has got four states:
. Up
. Over
. Down
. Hit
UP is the state whenever the pointer is not over the button. Over is the state whenever the pointer is over the button.
Down is the state whenever the button is clicked Hit is the state which is invisible on the screen but which responds to mouse events.
Steps for Creating a Button
1)Click on the Insert Menu and choose New Symbol (Ctrl+F8)
2)Choose button and give it a name.
3) In the "Up" state, type "Profile"
4) Insert a key frame(F6). Notice that a new key frame has been added for the "Over" state.
Change the color or size of the text "Profile".
5) Insert another key frame(F6) for the "Down" state.
once again, change the color or size of the text "Profile".
6) Insert another key frame(F6) for the "Hit" state.
7) Use any of the tools and draw an area over the button for the "Hit" state. This will make that area active or should I say "click able"
I have used the Rectangle Tool for this tutorial.
8) Click on your scene which is just above the Timeline to come out of the button and to go back to your scene.
9) Open the Library (Ctrl+L) and drag your button onto the stage.
10) Press Ctrl+enter and test your button with your mouse!
Your output should look something like this
