Smile AMD Launches First Chipset With ATI Graphics

.jpg  amd.jpg (Size: 11.35 KB / Downloads: 1) AMD has launched a new chipset that integrates the functions of the ATI Radeon X1250 graphics processor -- technology it obtained with the recent acquisition of ATI. AMD aims to fully combine microprocessor and graphics functions on a single silicon chip within the next two years.

Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) has announced the availability of its AMD 690 chipset, the first integrated chipset that includes the recently acquired ATI (Nasdaq: ATYT) Radeon X1250 graphics processor.

Integration of the Radeon processor means that PCs based on the 690 chipset will not require any additional graphics cards, according to AMD.

The move is likely the first step in achieving AMD's long-term mission -- set shortly after it acquired ATI -- of combining functions of the microprocessor with those of the graphics processor on a single chip
